The Dighton Rehoboth Youth Football and Cheer Founder and Current President is Richard 'Doc' Mello.
Doc founded D-R Youth Football and Cheer 40 years ago. It was then called the Rehoboth Chiefs and later became one of the founding teams of the now Rhode Island South Eastern MA (RISMA) Pop Warner, of which Doc has been a long standing Board member of. When RISMA was founded our team changed from Rehoboth Chiefs to be Dighton Rehoboth Youth Football and Cheer and included both Dighton and Rehoboth participants.
Doc is married to his wife of 50+ years Kay Mello and has a son John and Daughter Jody. He also is a grandfather to Cole and Thomas.
Doc's devotion to youth sports and community is the reason he started the Rehoboth Chiefs and now D-R youth football and cheer. His son John and his friends all played for the Chiefs and many have come back to coach for D-R youth football and cheer.
Doc is a Veterinarian (DVM) and owner of Warren Animal hospital in Warren, RI and was a member of the Rehoboth school board for many years.
During the fall on a Friday night, you can usually find Doc in the end zone of the
D-R high school football games surrounded by people whom have played or coached in the D-R youth football and cheer program.
You can often hear Doc say that his father taught them "To leave the world a little bit better than when you entered". I think we can agree Doc has succeeded in doing that.
